When you are playing paintball games, it is not enough to hit the ground running, you need to hit the ground shooting. It will take practice to be able to shoot while running, dodging shots, and finding cover, but it can be done and you can be very proficient at paintball maneuvers.

Don’t expect to be able to acquire these skills only out on the field. There are things you can do off the field. To be good on a paintball field, you will need to be in shape and be a great shot. This will take some practice off the field as well as on the field. The following can help you increase fitness for when you are out on the field:

1. Running - increases speed and stamina for when you are out on the paintball field
2. Healthy diet - increases stamina, energy levels, and alertness
3. Weight lifting - increases strength to prevent fatigue while carrying paintball gun and gear
4. Squats - be able to hide behind objects without muscle fatigue
5. Adequate sleep - increases mental alertness, energy, and stamina

Being fit on the paintball field isn’t enough if you can’t shoot. Paintball shooting skills are important when playing paintball games for fun or for sport (competition). Shooting practice is essential to becoming a valued member of a paintball team. When developing shooting skills it is important to be familiar and comfortable with the paintball gun that you are shooting with. When you buy a new gun, be sure to have time to shoot it and get use to it before heading out to the field. Some target shooting is the first thing you will need to do. The next will be to simulate some shooting maneuvers. Practice some of the following maneuvers before getting out on the field:

1. Shoot your paintball gun at a target while running past it
2. Crouch down behind a shelter, stand up, shoot at paintball target, and crouch down again
3. When stationary, shoot at a moving target
4. Jump off an object and shoot at a target
5. Pass the gun from one hand to the other and shoot at a paintball target

When changing from a smaller paintball gun to a larger paintball gun (or visa versa) you should make sure you give yourself some extra practice. You will need to do this when you buy a new gun also. Different types of paintball guns will handle different and just because you were proficient and accurate with one gun, there will be no guarantees that you will be as good with a new paintball gun or a different gun. The only way to find out is to practice, practice, and practice some more. After some practice you will feel comfortable with your gun and it will be time to head out to the field. You will be able to hit the ground shooting because you took the time to get to know your gun and become comfortable with it.

It is worth the practice to become an accurate shot out on the paintball field and be a valuable member of your paintball team.
