Types of Paintball Fields

One of the great things about the game of paintball is the ability to play on 2 main types of fields, the indoor field and the outdoor field. Each field of play is different depending on the type of game you are going to play. Let’s begin with the outdoor fields; there are different outdoor style fields. There are the:

  • Wooded Fields
  • Speedball Fields
  • Special Props Fields

The wooded fields are one of the most exciting places to play, the reason being that the woods provide protection for the players and thereby creating a little mystery in your game. When you can’t see the other players it makes the game more exciting and you can feel that adrenaline rush. Plus when you play outside in a wooded area the game takes on a sense of real combat like you are really in a game for your life.

The way you play the game is also different, you learn to play a better defense and offense, you have to adapt to your surroundings. You learn a sense of teamwork and you also learn a better sense of control, if you fire your gun and you don’t have a good shot then you will give away your position and it could jeopardize your position in the game.

When you play on a speedball fields it really means that the field has a series of bunkers and no other obstructions throughout the field of play. These fields can be really large fields and some can be small. They tend to vary, what also varies is how you play the game. A true speedball fields have a group of bunkers that fit very close together and the game is in full swing the second the whistle is blown.

Special Prop fields have advantages over playing an open field game. With special props you can find refuge behind many number of things such as

  • Fake Buildings
  • Old cars
  • Castles
  • Tall towers

With these obstacles it is harder to get hit by other players but it is also an advantage to the other players because if they know you are hiding behind an old car for example then they know you can’t move and if they converge on the car you can’t hit everyone so chances are they are going to get you before you can get them. But it adds to the excitement of the game.

When playing on indoor fields, they tend to be small and more predictable than playing outside. You also may take a notice that because you are indoors that the noise of the gun is loud and therefore can hurt your ears; you may want to invest in some plugs or some kind of ear protection. Most indoor fields are set up for the game of speedball is a fast paced game and the paintballs fly fast. Players who have played both in door and outdoor claim they like indoor better because they get more of an exciting game and the adrenaline rush they say is incredible.
